[common chemical reactions] n-hexanol is a higher fatty alcohol, which has the general properties of fatty alcohol. It reacts with chlorosulfonic acid or fuming sulfuric acid to produce hexyl sulfonic acid, and then neutralizes with sodium hydroxide to produce sodium hexyl sulfonate, which is an important way to produce alkyl sulfonic acid detergent with high carbon alcohol



Main uses

(1) It can be used as analytical reagent, and also used in pharmaceutical industry to produce preservatives and sleeping pills. It is used as a solvent for dyes, Rubbers, special printing inks, oils, natural resins, etc., and as a cosolvent for nitrocellulose. It is also used in the manufacture of plasticizers, synthetic lubricants, perfumes and pharmaceuticals.
